Welcome to one of the most beautiful historical sites in France, a 360-km network of navigable waterways linking the Mediterranean and the
Atlantic through 328 structures, locks, aqueducts, bridges and tunnels. The Canal du Midi, built between 1667 and 1694, is one of the
achievements of civil engineering and one of the most extraordinary of the modern
era, which paved the way for the Industrial Revolution.
The concern of architectural aesthetics and landscapes was what
inspired the designer, Pierre-Paul Riquet to create not only a technical
achievement, but also a work of art.
The Canal du Midi is listed as a World Heritage Site since 1996.
